As a gynaecologist practising in West Delhi for over four decades, one pattern I see repeatedly is this: women wait. They wait until pain becomes unbearable, until irregularities become impossible to ignore, until a problem that was manageable becomes complex. This blog is my appeal to you β do not wait.
An occasional irregular cycle is normal. But consistent irregularity β skipping months, extremely heavy flow, or cycles shorter than 21 days β can indicate hormonal imbalance, PCOS, or thyroid issues. Early diagnosis changes outcomes.
Persistent pelvic pain is never "just cramps." It could indicate endometriosis, fibroids, or ovarian cysts β all of which are manageable when detected early and complicated when ignored.
Bleeding between periods, after intercourse, or post-menopause always warrants investigation. So does discharge that is unusual in colour, quantity, or odour. These are your body's signals β listen to them.
I meet women in their third trimester who have had no antenatal check-ups. Antenatal care is not optional β it is how we detect gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and foetal abnormalities before they become emergencies.
A new lump in the breast or pelvis, a change in skin texture, or unexplained weight changes β these always need evaluation. Early detection is the single most powerful tool in women's health.
"Do not normalise pain. Do not postpone care. Your health is not something that can wait for a convenient time."
